Minnesota Vikings Jell-O Shots
Directions: Step 1 Prepare 2 oz cups by placing each one in an individual muffin tin cavity and leaning them at an angle so they’re tilted at about 45 degrees. Step 2 For purple layer: In a medium saucepan, mix together 1 cup water with grape Jell-O and sprinkle 1 envelope gelatin on top. Allow mixture to sit for 1 minute, then whisk everything together; heat on medium until it reaches a simmer. Add 1 cup vodka and whisk together. Place 1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons purple Jell-O into each of 2 oz cups and place in fridge for about 30 minutes. Step 3 For yellow layer: In a medium saucepan, mix together 1 cup water with lemon Jell-O and sprinkle 1 envelope gelatin on top. Allow mixture to sit for 1 minute, then whisk everything together; heat on medium until it reaches a simmer. Add 1 cup vodka and whisk together. Allow mixture to cool down to room temperature, and turn all 2 oz cups so they’re upright again. Once cooled, fill each 2 oz cup up until even with top edge of purple layer (this will be about another 1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons). Refrigerate again for at least 3 hours before serving so Jell-O shots are completely set.
It was a crisp autumn Sunday, and the Vikings were facing off against the Packers. My buddy Sam had invited everyone over to his place, and in true Minnesota fashion, he decided to combine two classic traditions: Jello shots and bong hits every time the Vikings scored.
The game kicked off, and the anticipation in the room was electric. It didn’t take long for the Vikings to make their move. The first touchdown came early, and Sam enthusiastically handed out the Jello shots. We all raised our cups, cheered, and downed the colorful gelatin. Right on cue, Sam lit up the bong, and the room filled with a cloud of celebratory smoke.
As the game progressed, the Vikings were on fire. Another touchdown meant another round of Jello shots and bong hits. By halftime, we were on our fourth round. The combination of sugar and THC was starting to take its toll, and the energy in the room was reaching new heights – and some new lows.
The second half began, and the Vikings scored yet again. We repeated the ritual: Jello shots, cheers, and bong hits. But this time, as the smoke cleared, we realized we were missing someone. Where was Dave? We found him in the kitchen, attempting to make a sandwich but completely befuddled by the complexity of the task. We all had a good laugh and helped him back to the couch.
Then came the pivotal moment. The Vikings were on a roll, and they scored a miraculous touchdown with a 50-yard pass. The room erupted. In our enthusiasm, we might have overdone it. I took my Jello shot and reached for the bong, but my coordination was less than perfect. The bong tipped over, spilling water everywhere and causing a minor panic. Sam, trying to save the day, grabbed the nearest towel but managed to knock over the entire tray of Jello shots in the process.
Amidst the chaos, the doorbell rang. It was Sam's neighbor, Mr. Anderson, looking concerned. We braced ourselves for a scolding, but instead, he grinned and asked, “Mind if I join? I heard the Vikings scored!”
We all burst into laughter and welcomed him in. The rest of the game was a blur of more touchdowns, more Jello shots, and more bong hits. By the end, we were all sprawled out on the couches, the floor, and anywhere we could find space, laughing and recounting the night's ridiculous events.
As the final whistle blew and the Vikings celebrated their victory, we made a pact. Next game, we’d be prepared with a sturdier bong, more Jello shots, and maybe a few snacks that didn’t require any assembly. And as we cleaned up the colorful mess, we couldn’t help but look forward to the next wild, hilarious game day tradition.
